The College of Accounting Sciences (CAS) hosted a delegation from the University of Namibia (UNAM) on 15 April 2026 for a strategic engagement to strengthen academic collaboration. The visit by UNAM’s Patrick Swartz and Kautjiko Mujende created a platform for both institutions to explore shared priorities and identify practical areas for partnership within accounting education.
Discussions centred on key areas of collaboration, including the development of articulation agreements for Bachelor of Accounting Sciences pathways to create clearer academic progression routes for students. Teaching and learning, research collaboration, curriculum development, and student and industry engagement were also highlighted as important focus areas. These discussions reflect a shared commitment to ensuring that academic programmes remain relevant and responsive to the evolving needs of the accounting profession.
A significant aspect of the engagement was UNAM’s interest in strengthening its academic capacity, particularly in increasing the number of staff with master’s and doctoral qualifications. The delegation sought to learn from CAS regarding best practices to support staff development and postgraduate progression. In response, the college indicated its willingness to provide mentorship and guidance, including potential opportunities for UNAM staff to enrol for higher degrees with support from CAS academics.
Both institutions agreed to work towards formalising the partnership through a memorandum of understanding. In the interim, practical initiatives such as staff exchange programmes and mentorship opportunities will be explored to begin advancing collaboration. This engagement marks an important step in fostering regional cooperation and strengthening the development of accounting education in Southern Africa.
